This is the terrifying moment a man awaiting extradition to the United States jumped to his death at a holding facility in Colombia.

Daniel Álvarez was being escorted by agents at the attorney general’s building in Medellín when he leaped over the third-floor stair handrail on Wednesday.

Paramedics attempted to save his life while rushing him to an area clinic, but he was declared dead before arriving.

Álvarez was facing child pornography and pedophilia charges in the Southern District of New York.

DailyMail.com reached out to the prosecution’s office for comment.

Surveillance camera footage showed Álvarez in civilian clothing and without handcuffs as he walked between two guards.

He then made a beeline for the stair handrail and dove head first to the surprise of the agents.

The officers could be seen placing their heads over their heads in shock before another official joined them in running down the stairs to aid Álvarez.

Colombian authorities opened an investigation into the incident to determine if Álvarez jumped in an attempt to escape from the facility or if he was trying to commit suicide.

According to local outlets, Álvarez was a professor at a private university in the nearby town of Sabaneta.

In addition, he had taught English to design and leather manufacturing to online and in-person students at the National Learning Service between 2017 and 2022.

Weekly news magazine Semana reported that Álvarez had signed a contract in February that was to expire in September.
