- She strides up to letterbox and rummages before removing Conservative leaflet
- Then shoves Labour leaflet through the flap before calmly walking away
This is the astonishing moment a Labour councillor was caught on camera pinching a Conservative councillor’s election leaflet out of a constituent’s letterbox and replacing it with her own.
Councillor Rachael Ellis was spotted on a constituent’s doorbell camera as she strode up to the house clutching a stack of Labour Party leaflets on Saturday in Bestwood St Albans in Gedling, Nottinghamshire.
She is seen confidently approaching the letterbox before reaching her hand in to check if anything has been caught in the flap.

After rummaging around the letterbox flap for a bit, while checking through the door’s window to see if anyone is watching her, she retrieves the red and blue Conservative leaflet.
In one deft move she then shoves a Labour leaflet through the letterbox in its place before calmly walking off.

Conservative MP for Gedling Tom Randall, 39, was made aware of the incident after one of his constituents emailed him the shocking footage.
Mr Randall said: ‘I’m surprised and disappointed to see an experienced Gedling Labour councillor removing Conservative election material that had been delivered to a house in Arnold North.
‘On Saturday evening, I returned home from a day’s campaigning to an e-mail that said I’d been seen delivering a leaflet from a doorbell camera.
‘The e-mail continued: ”About one hour after your visit another person delivered a different leaflet, which was an election leaflet for Cllr Pauline Allen and Cllr Michael Payne. The person delivering this leaflet decided to remove your leaflet from my letterbox and took it away with them.”
Mr Randall posted the alarming footage to his Facebook page alongside the caption: ‘Pilfering Labour. On seeing the footage I see that the activist is actually an experienced Labour Gedling Borough Councillor.

‘Why did she take it? Because Labour don’t want you to read the truth.
‘The blue and red leaflet you can see being removed from the letterbox explains how Labour-run Nottingham City Council: Lost the taxpayer over £38,000,000 on failed projects, such as Robin Hood energy; Has been put into special measures; Is running a budget deficit, relying on government bailouts to keep key services in operation; and is cutting jobs, closing leisure centres and reducing bus services.’
Councillor Rachael Ellis, who is also a Justice of the Peace, has been approached for comment.
A Labour spokesman said: ‘The Labour Party issues strict election campaigning guidelines to all of our members.’
A source added that Labour does not condone this type of behaviour.
