Pimlico underground station is evacuated

Pimlico underground station is evacuated with emergency services at the scene after a person dies on the track

  • British Transport police confirmed a casualty on the tracks has now died 

A major section of the London Underground has been closed this afternoon after a person died at Pimlico station. 

The station in central London was evacuated and closed off at 2.48pm following reports of a casualty on the track. 

British Transport police confirmed the person has now died. 

There is chaos on the tube with the Victoria Line between Brixton and Victoria station suspended while emergency services remain at the scene.

A British Transport Police spokesman told MailOnline paramedics and the air ambulance were called to the scene shortly before 3pm but the casualty died at the scene. 

Officers say the death is not being treated as suspicious. 

An air ambulance has landed on Vauxhall Bridge, which has been closed to traffic. 

It remains unclear whether the person was hit by a train.   

TfL says tickets will be accepted on London buses via any reasonable route.
