Ryder Cup star Thorbjorn Olesen appears in court accused of groping stewardess
RYDER Cup winner Thorbjorn Olesen has appeared court this morning to face charges of urinating on a first class flight and groping a stewardess.
The Danish golf ace, 29, was arrested on his return from the World Golf Championships-FedEx St Jude Invitational on a flight from Nashville to London on July 29.
The five-time European Tour winner is alleged to have been drunk on the British Airways plane and stands accused of sexual assault and assault by beating.
Olesen, of Redcliffe Road in Chelsea, south-west London, appeared at Isleworth Crown Court, and sat in the dock wearing a dark suit, white shirt and red tie, appearing under the first name Jacob.
No pleas were entered at the short hearing on Wednesday, with a plea hearing due to be held on December 13.
He stands accused of drunkenly kissing the woman's neck and hand before urinating in the aisle while in the air.
He previously indicated he would plead not guilty to the charges when he appeared at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court last month.
The Danish national was arrested and later released under investigation.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman confirmed Olesen was then charged by postal requisition on August 1.
Paul Morris, Olesen's lawyer, said in a statement: "Thorbjorn has co-operated fully with the police during their investigation, but while the legal proceedings are still ongoing he unfortunately cannot comment on this matter.".
He has been suspended by the European Tour, pending the outcome of the case.
A provisional trial date has been set for May 11 next year and that hearing is scheduled to last for five days. Olesen has been granted unconditional bail.
