Marriage is on the cards! Street magician helps with incredible proposal in Times Square
- Yehuda Mehlman, 24, proposed to his future wife in Times Square, New York
- His friend, who is a magician, was drafted in to surprise Chaya Baila Rothberg
- The words ‘will you marry me’ were written on playing cards during a trick
- Photos of the couple and the words ‘will you marry me’ displayed on billboards
A bride-to-be was stunned when a magician’s playing cards spelled out the words ‘Will you marry me’ during an ‘incredible’ Times Square proposal.
Chaya Baila Rothberg, known as CB, had just been to see a film with her boyfriend Yehuda Mehlman, 24, when he asked her to marry him in New York, US.
Mr Mehlman enlisted the help of his friend, magician Shlomo Levinger, to surprise his fiancée before two of Times Square’s famous billboards were emblazoned with photos of the couple and the words ‘CB will you marry me?’

Miss Rothberg, 25, is so shocked she initially apologises when the playing cards she and her future husband turn over while participating in a magic trick read: ‘Will you marry me.’
Mr Levinger, a magician from Queens, New York, was told to stand in front of the theatre and catch their eye during a ten-minute slot between the time the film finished and 8pm – when the billboards were set to change – on April 10.
Under the guise of filming a YouTube video Mr Levinger asks Miss Rothberg to pick four cards out of his pack of playing cards. He then asks her to put her hands out in front of her, and tells Mr Mehlman to do the same.
Turning to Mr Mehlman he says: ‘I want you to think of a card. Any four of a kind. These cards are going to turn in to what you’re thinking. Turn over your cards at the same time.’
Counting to three the couple turn their cards over. Each card has a word written in marker on it. The words are ‘marry’, ‘will’, ‘me’ and ‘you’.
As Mr Mehlman gets down on one knee and holds a ring box up to cement the proposal Miss Rothberg is speechless and can only smile and nod at her future husband.
Taking all four cards Mr Mehlman holds them up in the right order to say: ‘Will you marry me’, but his future wife is so shocked she apologises to him – still thinking it is just part of the magician’s trick.

As a cheer erupts Miss Rothberg asks ‘what are they looking at’. The crowds surrounding them are looking up at two of Times Square’s billboards.
When Mr Mehlman tells her to follow their gaze her jaw drops as she clasps her hands to her face in shock.
Above her, two billboards feature photos of the couple and the words ‘CB will you marry me’.
The couple first met at a mutual friend’s party, which both initially debated not going to, according to Mr Levinger.
He said: ‘The plan was diabolical. First they would go see a movie, and when the movie was over, they would happen to come across me filming a street magic video for my YouTube channel and I’d ask them if they would like to see some magic.

‘After showing them a few magic tricks, the final trick would magically pop the question.
‘At this point CB would think the proposal was over, and that was the end of an incredible proposal.
‘That’s when Yehuda would have her turn around and three massive billboards in the heart of Times Square solidify the proposal.
‘Thankfully, everything worked out and it was an incredible night.’
