Two police officers suspended after CBD pursuit
Two Victoria Police officers have been suspended after a car pursuit through Melbourne’s CBD on Saturday morning.
The off-duty officers were among five men who allegedly fled from on-duty police when their unregistered Mercedes-Benz was seen on William Street about 3.30am.
The vehicle ran a red light and stopped in Little Bourke Street, where the five men fled on foot, a police spokesman said.
A 28-year-old senior constable from the north-west metro region was arrested nearby.
He is expected to be charged on summons with drug possession, the spokesman said.
A recruit, also aged 28, was located nearby and interviewed over the incident.
Both have been suspended with pay.
Two of the three other men in the car have been identified, the spokesman said.
Professional Standards Command detectives are continuing to investigate the incident.
