Two thugs arrested after cop was assaulted as he gave first aid to London tube passenger amid Euros final violence
TWO thugs have been arrested after a police officer was attacked while he gave first aid to a London Underground passenger following England's Euro 2020 loss.
The British Transport Police announced that two 22-year-old men from Wolverhampton have been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm after the sickening attack at Camden Town Underground station.
They said the pair were being questioned in police custody.
The BTP officer was providing urgent medical assistance to a man who had fallen down the stairs just after 11pm when he was brutally set upon.
He was approached by two thugs who punched him and hit him around the head as he tended to the medical emergency.
The officer was taken to hospital with fractures to his face and serious injuries to his shoulder and upper body, amid a night of violence after the European final game a Wembley.
He was discharged from hospital on Monday and is now recovering at home, the force said.
Detective Inspector Gary Pinner said: "This is a pleasing development in our investigation into what was a shocking act of violence on an officer helping someone in need."
But he urged any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police to come forward as the investigation into the incident continues.
The sickening attack came after a night of unrest in the capital after some football fans ruined a day of huge pride for millions of real supporters as vicious fights broke out.
