It may be 2021, but SZA showed up to the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night wearing a hairstyle that took us back to our early 2000s. Before switching things up and sporting a fiery orange wig for her performance at the award show, the “Good Days” singer appeared on the red carpet wearing one of this year’s biggest retro hair trends: the money piece highlight.

For the uninitiated, a money piece highlight is a bold, face-framing highlight that hairstylists typically use to accent and frame the face. SZA’s take on the trend featured a jet-black color that she accented with a chunky blond highlight. The style was created by hairstylists Tevin Washington and Randy Stodghill.
