Chrissy Teigen Shares What She Gets Mom-Shamed About The Most
Social media maven Chrissy Teigen attracts a massive fan base with her authenticity and ability to always keep it real. With over 28 million followers on Instagram and 12 million on Twitter, the celebrity mom of two always finds something to share that resonates with the masses.
Teigen recently revealed some not-so-nice comments she receives when she posts particular pics of her kids at mealtime.
Socially real
The former supermodel has truly made her mark on social media, earning various endorsement deals with mega companies such as Google and Pampers. Though she and husband John Legend are considered Hollywood elite, Teigen remains relatable due to her transparent posts that show their home life, warts and all. Despite her openness, the Lip Sync Battle star is careful to leave out out anything her kids – daughter Luna, 3, and son Miles, 1 – may not be thrilled with later on in life.
“There’s nothing that happens that we really feel we can’t post,” Teigen said, according to Net-A-Porter in May. “We don’t want to post pictures of the kids that they may see in ten years and be embarrassed by, but that’s it.”
Teigen tends to share pics from the home front rather than showbiz glitz and glitter, which has inspired the masses to follow her social media accounts. “We’re not pretending that life is perfect,” she said. “I’m not the person who goes to work and posts the glam photos.”
The pics that bring on the hate
Mom-shaming tends to be universal, where Teigen is no stranger to getting negative comments. “It’s pretty much everything,” she told Today Parents on receiving criticism for her pics on social media.
Yet certain photos seem to incite more faultfinding than othhers from followers. “Any time I post a picture of them holding ribs or eating sausage, I get a lot of criticism,” Teigen shared. “Vegans and vegetarians are mad and feel that we forcing meat upon them at a young age. They freak out.”
There are other pics Teigen puts up that tend to draw some ire. “If they get a glimpse of the car seat there is a lot of buckle talk,” she said. “Maybe for one half of a second, the strap slipped down. And TV is another big one. We have TV on a lot in my house. John and I work on television; we love watching television.”
It takes a village
Teigen shared some insight she’s gleaned since having her second child, recalling some struggles with feeling unwanted when her daughter was a baby. “When Luna was a little baby, I would get so sad. I remember being bummed out because I felt like she didn’t love me as much as she loved John,” she told Today Parents. “It was the dumbest silliest thing to worry about… Now, when Miles pulls away from me, I’m not taking it the same way. I know how strong Luna and my bond is, and I know Miles and I will be there too. You can’t take anything personally.”
The cookbook author is also very upfront about the extra hands she has to help her manage family life that many mothers don’t, and praises the moms that have to handle child care on their own.
“My mom lives with us. I have hair and makeup people. I’m not getting up and doing all this by myself,” she revealed to Yahoo! Style in 2017. “We have help. It’s important for people to know that… I have the utmost respect for mothers and single mothers who go to work and come home and make dinner.”
Comments like that are just another reason fans adore Teigen!
