Emmy Awards 2022: Watch This Year's Nominations Announcement

The nominees for the 74th Emmy Awards were announced Tuesday, July 12. The virtual announcement ceremony began at 11:30 a.m. ET and was hosted by comedian J.B. Smoove and actress Melissa Fumero.

In the drama category, some of the leading favorites include Succession — which won Outstanding Drama last time it was nominated in 2020 — Better Call Saul, and Euphoria, as well as newcomers like Severance, Yellowjackets, and Netflix’s South Korean smash, Squid Game. Should Squid Game be nominated for at least a couple of awards as expected, it would break ground as the first non-English language Emmy nominee (per The Associated Press).

Over in comedy, last year’s Outstanding Comedy Series winner Ted Lasso is surely likely to secure another nomination and remain a heavy favorite to win big. HBO favorites like Hacks and Barry are also likely contenders, as is Hulu’s hit Only Murders in the Building, starring Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, and Martin Short. But these streaming successes may face some competition from an unlikely network TV hit, ABC’s Abbott Elementary.

Probably the biggest favorite for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series will be the first installment of Mike White’s acclaimed new show, The White Lotus. Other contenders could include HBO’s adaptation of Station Eleven or some of the various limited series about start-up disasters like WeCrashed (about the rise and fall of WeWork) and The Dropout (about Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes).

The 74th Primetime Emmy Awards will take place on Monday, Sept. 22, 2022, airing at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT. The show will air on NBC and the streaming platform Peacock.
