Meghan Markle launched a new charitable initiative in honour of her 40th birthday alongside her pal and actress Melissa McCarthy. The Bridesmaids star admitted she was “impressed” as she gushed over the Duchess of Sussex.

Meghan’s 40×40 project asks 40 individuals to dedicate 40 minutes of their day to helping a woman returning to the work after the pandemic.

The 50-year-old actress addressed the Sussexes’ decision to step down from their roles as senior royals as she appeared to wade into the backlash the couple have received.

Melissa urged we need a “billion more people” like the Duchess that will help others.

Addressing Meghan’s decision to step back from royal duties, the Hollywood actress said the royal couple are putting themselves and their children at the forefront.

“I’m impressed and inspired by her,” Melissa confessed.

“I love [when] someone chooses to lead their life the way they want to and give their children the life they want to give them.”

Prince Harry and Meghan share two-year-old son Archie and two-month-old daughter Lilibet.

Melissa’s comments come after Meghan marked the milestone birthday on Wednesday by making the announcement.

She shared her message in a comedic video with the Bridesmaids actress.

Among those who have promised 40 minutes of their time are Adele, Sophie Gregoire Trudeau, the wife of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and fashion designer Stella McCartney.

“It’s her 40th, [I was wondering,] ‘What fun thing does she want?’ and instead she’s like, ‘How can I get more people to help other women that need help?'” Melissa recalled of Meghan.

She continued to ET Online: “I was like, ‘That’s what we need. We need a billion more people like that in the world to do that, to take a little bit of time, then you can really help somebody.'”

Melissa admitted she was eager to be “signed up” when approached to take part in Meghan’s 40th birthday video.

During the candid clip, the Duke of Sussex made a brief cameo appearance for the 40×40 initiative.

Harry was initially unsure about making an appearance but in the brief moment, he can be seen juggling three balls in the garden while his wife takes part in the video call.

Melissa revealed that the royal thought he may look “weird” during his brief stint.

She told Access Hollywood: “In comes Harry and he’s like, ‘I can juggle’… Then he’s like, ‘Is it going to be weird if I stand outside and juggle?’

“I was like, ‘Weird in a way that will make me watch it five million times!’”

Melissa heaped praise on the Sussexes’ and how they are “carving out” their new lifestyle.

She said: “They were so sweet and funny. I just find them very inspiring.”
