My family are accusing me of fat-shaming after I didn't invite 35 stone bro-in-law to dinner – he can't fit around table

PART of a big family? Then you'll know that trying to organise any kind of get together can quickly get very political.

As a rule, we generally tend to invite EVERYONE or no one at all in an attempt to keep the peace – and this couple's experience has taught us it's definitely the right approach.

Posting on Reddit's 'Am I The A******' forum, the anonymous man explained how him and his wife recently completed a home renovation.

He explained: "My wife is a professional chef and has dreamed since she was a child of having a high end dining room to host dinner parties in."

To celebrate the occasion, the couple invited their parents and siblings round for a meal – but purposefully excluded the woman's 35-stone brother-in-law.

He continued: "The chairs that we bought cannot support him, and even then he is unable to sit upright due to his weight for long periods of time.

My wife’s sister hates me and their close relationship is ruining our marriage

"He would require to either sit in out living room on the couch or to sit in a medical chair that we cannot get into home.

"Him sitting in there would literally defeat the point of hosting a dinner party for our new dinning room."

To complicate matters further, the wife is planning on serving seven smaller dishes as part of her tasting menu – which previously hasn't gone down well with her brother-in-law.

He claimed: "He harassed my wife over serving smaller portions in the past."

Needless to say, the woman's sister and brother-in-law are absolutely fuming over the arrangements for the evening – and the man didn't sugarcoat it for them either.

He continued: "When he called asking last night as to why he was not invited I did not lie to him, it was because of his weight and past actions regarding food and my wife.

"He lost his mind because we were excluding him because of his weight."

Laying down the law, the man added: "This night is about my wife and being able to fulfil a childhood dream, not about accommodating him and his mobility and food issues."

Unsurprisingly, the woman's sister is now kicking off and has publicly shamed the pair on Facebook.

Although the other family members attending the dinner party understand where they're coming from, the man says his mates who have seen the Facebook posts are calling him an "elitist" and a "major a******".

One member of the forum replied: "As someone who is well overweight, I don't see any of this as fatphobic.

"You CLEARLY state the chairs won't support him, something I've come across in my own life and know it's a factor out of people's hands. I've broken a chair or two and it's f***ing embarrassing."

Another added: "I think this can be a 'damned if you do, damned if you don't' situation.

"Some people seem to get mad when you point out other's weight […] On the other hand, if you don't warn them and they get hurt or embarrassed, then they get mad at you for not saying anything."

Meanwhile, a third wrote: "When you're that heavy you have to face the reality that you cannot do the same things as other people and he sounds like he's in denial. Your wife's sister is an enabler as well."

Jumping to the brother-in-law's defence, a fourth replied: "I honestly felt bad for this guy since it must hurt to be excluded, no matter the reason."
