THE Post Office provides essential services such as banking, paying bills and collecting benefits, but will it be open for the August Bank Holiday?
Here is what you need to know about the Post Office opening times this Bank Holiday weekend.
The summer bank holiday takes place on Monday August 30.
Banks and schools will be closed and many people will have a day off work.
That could give you the chance to relax and catch up on errands and the good news is that your local Post Office will be open over the Bank Holiday weekend if you need to visit.
Is the Post Office open during the August Bank Holiday?
There are around 11,500 Post Office branches in the UK, the majority of which are run independently or on a franchise arrangement.
Most open around 9am and close between 5pm and 6pm during the week but some may only be open for a half day on a Saturday.
Post Offices tend to be closed on a Sunday.
Most are expected to be open during Bank Holiday Monday on August 30 but it is best to check your local branch using the Post Office finder.
Operating hours may also be different to a normal Monday so check before you travel.
Will I still receive letters and packages on the bank holiday?
The postman also gets a day off for the bank holiday.
Post won't be collected in England, Northern Ireland, and Wales on Bank Holiday Monday.

What are the upcoming Bank Holiday dates for 2021?
Here is the full list of 2021 remaining Bank Holidays in England and Wales.
- Monday, August 30 (Summer Bank Holiday)
- Saturday, December 25 (Christmas Day)
- Sunday, December 26 (Boxing Day)
Dates in Scotland and Northern Ireland vary.
Brits will also get an extra bank holiday on December 27 and 28 as Christmas and Boxing Day fall on a weekend.
Post Office card accounts are set to close in November, affecting anyone who gets Universal Credit, State Pension payments and other benefits paid through them.
Pre-paid cards can also be used if you can't get a current account, but Martin Lewis has warned that that they often come with expensive and unnecessary charges.
The Post Office has partnered with DPD to use an independent delivery firm for the first time in its history.
