London Dungeons are as chilling as ever, get TWO free tickets with Sun Superdays

FOLKLORE has it that you are never more than six feet away from a rat, but at the London Dungeons this week I got the chance to get up close and personal with the furry beasts.

As Sun Superdays begins its offer tomorrow for two FREE tickets to the attraction, I went behind the scenes for an exclusive rat-handling session.

Famous for its ghoulish romp through the capital’s gory past, the London Dungeon looks as chilling as ever.

For health and safety reasons, visitors aged 11 and over have to wear face masks inside. But wandering through the dimly-lit corridors, the masked faces only added to the thrilling sense of menace.

The London Dungeons is the only UK dungeon with live-in rats. Look carefully on your next visit and you may see five females in their rat house.

While visitors can’t touch them, their presence is enough to add that extra touch of menace.

I met male rats Cromarty and Malin in the Dungeon schoolroom and was nervous as they were placed on my shoulder. Rats are scratchy, but their furry bodies are surprisingly soft.

It took a bit of getting used to, but soon the rats were racing up and down my arm and whipping their tails.

As well as wearing face masks inside, fun social-distancing markers have been placed throughout the attraction and visitors will have to have a temperature check on arrival.

But the overall ghoulishly fun experience – with visitors encountering characters from Sweeney Todd to Jack the Ripper – will stay the same.

General Manager Catherine Pritchard said: “The London Dungeon remains a truly immersive experience, where guests can see, hear and even smell London’s perilous past in the safest way possible.

“We’re proud that alongside the new safety measures we have also maintained the magic of our attraction so guests can still expect a terrifying day out.”
