Three fun Halloween recipes that kids will love to cook and eat together

This weekend brings the spookiest celebration of all – Halloween.

And, while it might not look the same as usual, due to the coronavirus pandemic, there’s still tonnes you can do with the kids.

Even if you choose not to go trick-or-treating you can have fun at home.

Why not get your little ones involved and whip up some fun Halloween treats before sitting down to watch your fave spooky film?

To give you some creative ideas, Princes has shared its top Halloween recipes for you to try.

So light up the jack-o-lanterns, switch on the oven and get cooking!

Halloween Apple Pie Mummies

3 servings, 20mins prep, 20-25 mins cooking

Ingredients

Apple Fillings & Toppings

  • 1 x 395g Princes Apple fruit filling & topping
  • 375g block puff pastry
  • Plain flour for rolling
  • 2 tbsp sultanas
  • 40g cake, crumbed
  • 1tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 small egg, beaten
  • 2 tbsp golden caster sugar
  • 6 edible eyes (for decoration)

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 200C/180Cfan/gas 6.
  2. Divide the pastry into three equal pieces and roll each piece out to a rectangle measuring 14cm x16m. Using sharp knife trim the edges so they are straight.
  3. Mix the pie filling, cake crumbs, sultanas and cinnamon.
  4. Spread a third of the apple filling into the middle of each sheet of pastry, leaving a five cm gap on each of the long edges.
  5. Cut pastry that is not covered with apple filling into strips about one cm apart. Fold the pastry strips into the middle over the apple filling, occasionally over lapping strips.
  6. Chill in the fridge for 15mins. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle over sugar.
  7. Cook for 20-25mins or until pastry is golden brown.
  8. Remove from the oven and allow to cool, before decorating with the edible eyes

Princes Tuna Monster Rolls

Serves 4. 25 minutes preparation.

Ingredients

  • 1 x 140g can Princes Sandwich Tuna, drained
  • 4 soft bread rolls
  • Butter, for spreading
  • A few curly lettuce leaves
  • 3 tbsp Greek-style natural yogurt
  • 4 cheese slices
  • 8 cherry tomatoes, halved
  • Salad cress or grated carrot

Method

  1. Split the bread rolls in two, without cutting all the way through. Spread with butter and top with lettuce leaves.
  2. Mix the Princes Sandwich Tuna with the yogurt and share between the rolls
  3. Cut each cheese slice in half with a zig-zag edge just use a sharp knife or scissors to do this. Arrange in the rolls.
  4. Position the cherry tomatoes on the rolls to resemble ‘eyes’.
  5. Top the rolls with salad cress or grated carrot to look like ‘hair’. Serve at once.

Princes Tasty Tuna Mini Beasts

Serves 4. 15 minutes prep.

Ingredients

  • 1 x 140g can Princes Sandwich Tuna, drained
  • 8 slices of bread from a large, medium-cut loaf (white or wholemeal)
  • 150g medium fat soft cheese
  • ¼ cucumber, thinly sliced
  • 4 cherry tomatoes, sliced in half
  • 2 radishes, sliced
  • 12 raisins or sultanas

Method

  1. Lightly toast the slices of bread. Use a large round cutter to stamp out circles from the slices of toast.
  2. Spread the soft cheese over the toast circles. Top half of them with the tuna.
  3. Cut the remaining toast circles in half and arrange them on top of the tuna mixture to look like ‘wings’.
  4. Layer the cucumber slices on top.
  5. Put two tomato slices on one end of each toast circle to look like ‘eyes’. Arrange the radish slices on top, then put a raisin or sultana onto each ‘eye’ with a third raisin or sultana below the eyes to look like a ‘nose’. Serve at once.
