SUNSPORT’S NEIL ASHTON:
ONE of manager Mauricio Pochettino’s many beefs with Tottenham is their failure to pursue Philippe Coutinho in the summer.
Barcelona, who signed him from Liverpool for well over £100m, were trying to offload the Brazilian forward on loan.
The Spurs boss had first-hand experience of Coutinho because he coached him when he was in charge of Espanyol.
Poch had taken him from Inter Milan in 2012, signing the player until the end of the season to help them avoid relegation.
And he wanted to sign him again this summer but lost out when Bayern Munich made their move.
Poch has complained endlessly about the need to spend big to bring his V2.0 Spurs up to scratch.
If Coutinho had been signed, he is convinced the rebuild would already be well under way.
SPURS are keeping an eye on Gilingham goalkeeper Joe Walsh.
Evening Times claim the 17-year-old Tottenham, Manchester City, Everton and RB Leipzig.
He kept a clean sheet over 90 minutes in Gillingham's game against Tottenham's Under21 side.
Walsh is under contract at Priestfield Stadium until 2022.
MEMPHIS DEPAY has been asked about the speculation surrounding his future.
Spurs are reportedly plotting a £50million move for the Dutch forward.
But he kept tight-lipped when he was asked by reporters about where his future lies.
He simply said: “I don't want to talk about that.”
TOBY ALDERWEIRELD has been bombarded with abuse from fans after his latest Twitter post.
The Spurs star posted a photograph of himself reporting for international duty with the caption: “It's good to be back.”
One fan responded: “When are you actually going to be BACK for Spurs?”
Another said: “Well yes, you're not a contract rebel for Belgium.”
DANNY MURPHY reckons Tottenham will finish above Arsenal this season.
Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: “I think there's a lot of players there who are struggling on confidence.
“Saying that, I still think they're in a better situation than Arsenal, which will please a lot of Arsenal fans I'm sure.
“I think they'll finish above Arsenal.”
