Arsenal have £35million transfer offer for Sassuolo star Gianluca Scamacca rejected as striker wants to stay in Italy

GIANLUCA SCAMACCA has snubbed a £35million move to Arsenal in favour of staying in Italy, according to reports.

Arsenal offered a transfer package of £35million plus bonuses to Sassuolo in order to bring the 23-year-old to The Emirates, but this was rejected by the player.

Alfredo Pedulla has reported Scamacca rejected the bid as he is waiting for a move to one of the Italian giants.

He is hoping the likes of Inter, AC Milan, or Napoli will make a concrete offer for him.

However, the report indicates that this could be some way off.

A move to this year's Serie A runner ups Inter would take time to materialise, while one to the likes of Champions Milan or third place Napoli would require more than an enquiry to be made.

Arsenal ‘very close to signing Jesus’ as Lacazette agrees to rejoin Lyon

Inter have deals for four Serie A stars in the pipeline before they can move onto the Scamacca deal, including Tottenham linked Paulo Dybala and ex-Arsenal and Man United star Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Disgruntled Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku is also an option for I Nerazzurri – which would add another layer of difficulty for any potential deal for Scamacca.

Scamacca scored 16 goals in 36 Serie A games, four times as many as Arsenal's main striker, Alexandre Lacazette, managed in the league this season.

The 23-year-old would be a cheaper alternative on Arsenal's wish list of strikers, with names such as Gabriel Jesus, Victor Osimhen, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin set to cost far more.

Arsenal will see the return of continental football next season thanks to a fifth-place finish in the Premier League.

But Mikel Arteta's relatively thin squad cannot hope to effectively compete on multiple fronts with the meagre firepower they currently possess.

The Gunners are set to lose Lacazette to free agency, while it remains unproven whether Eddie Nketiah can lead the line effectively across a full season for Arteta's side.

Nketiah ended the season in impressive form, scoring five goals in eight starts including a brace against Club World Cup winners Chelsea.

Regardless, one or two strikers are said to be high on the list of priorities for Arsenal this summer, as well as a midfielder and defender.

If they want to consolidate the progress they have made this season to make a return to European football's premier competition then a striker is simply a must-buy.
