Frank Lampard no longer 'Lamps' as Chelsea boss drops famous nickname

ONE of football’s most famous nicknames has been consigned to the dustbin — certainly inside Chelsea’s dressing room.

Frank Lampard, the man formerly known as Lamps, is now very much the boss.

Cesar Azpilicueta, 29, starred alongside Lampard during his Chelsea playing days and started the new gaffer’s first match, a 1-1 draw against Bohemians in Dublin on Wednesday.

Asked what Lampard is called by the players, Azpilicueta said: “Now he is the boss, the manager.

“Yes, of course he was called Lamps. I shared several years with him in the dressing room and I enjoyed the time with him as a team-mate.

“Now the next stage for him is a manager and he is our boss and we follow him.

“The way he wants to play, the way he wants us to feel the shirt, the way he wants us to train every day is something special.

"He is very keen to give opportunities to the younger players.

"All the senior players, we are happy and we are trying to help all of them."

Chelsea take on St Patrick’s Athletic in Dublin tomorrow before heading to Japan for two matches.
