Avengers Endgame: Will Chris Hemsworth remain ‘fat Thor’ in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3?
Last month’s Marvel epic surprised fans with a new look Thor after that five-year time jump. After failing to defeat Thanos, losing his family and homeworld, Thor fell into a deep depression and alcoholism resulting in becoming a chunkier version of the Asgardian god. Controversially, he was the butt of some jokes and didn’t go through a montage scene to get back into his muscular shape for Avengers Endgame’s time heist. If anything, following on from his character development in Thor Ragnarok, Hemsworth’s superhero became the comic relief by channelling The Big Lebowski.
And by the film’s end, he had boarded the Benatar to join the Guardians of the Galaxy on their adventures through space.
Of course, the newly established humorous Thor fits perfectly with the cosmic comedy of the Guardians.
And if anything, Avengers Infinity War proved a good test run of the chemistry between Thor and the team of misfits.
Now, while it hasn’t been announced, it’s assumed that Hemsworth will star as Thor alongside Chris Pratt and the gang in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.
But the real controversial question is, will Thor remain “fat Thor” or will he be back to his original physique.
It’s hard to tell at this stage, but our best bet is he will be somewhere in between, but maybe keeping his original long locks.
Earlier this month, Avengers Endgame’s screenwriters revealed that introducing “fat Thor” made people angry on set.
Speaking with Empire, Christopher Markus said: “There was a sad moment where it was like, ‘We’ve got this gross, disguising body for Thor now.’ And then they unveiled it and it’s just kind of like everybody else’s body here.”
Stephen McFeely added: “There were many people on set who were angry at us about doing that to Thor.”
Markus continued: “He kills the biggest bad guy in the MCU and it’s such a failure. It breaks him completely. He has no recourse at that point other than video games and beer.
“I like that heroes come in all shapes and sizes.
“He comes from a tradition of guys like Volstagg, of a big, ass-kicking fat guy. There’s no reason that he has to slim down.”
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 may release in 2021.
