Hit sitcom Ghosts has followed Alison Cooper (played by Charlotte Ritchie) and Mike (Kiell Smith-Bynoe) since she inherited Button House from a distant relative in 2019. Four series later and fans have come to know and love Alice, Mike and the spirits inhabiting their dilapidated home. Here’s everything there is to know about the future of Ghosts on BBC One.

Will there be another series of Ghosts?

Ghosts season four made its debut in September 2022 with episodes airing every Friday night or alternatively, viewers could binge all six episodes via BBC iPlayer.

While it’s only been a couple of months since the sitcom was last seen, fans are already eager for more.

Thankfully, the BBC chose not to leave viewers in suspense for very long as the broadcaster revealed news about the show’s future.

It has been confirmed that Ghosts will in fact be back for a fifth season on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Ghosts will resume filming for new episodes in early 2023 with series five expected to air sometime later next year.

Once again, the show will star and be created by Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond, with Lolly Adefope as Kitty along with Ritchie and Smith-Bynoe.

In a joint statement, the creators said: “We are delighted to confirm that Ghosts will be returning to BBC One and BBC iPlayer for a fifth series in 2023.

“We’ve had much fun in the writers’ room and are hugely excited by the new stories we have to tell and further secrets we get to reveal.

“We’ve been getting back into practice walking through walls and can’t wait to start shooting again in the new year.”

Ghosts will continue Alison and Mike’s story, picking up from where it was left in season four.

The gatehouse fire saw the destruction of the couple’s B&B which was their main source of income.

In the upcoming episodes, they are going to have to explore other means of making ends meet.

Alison and Mike will also have to contemplate a new chapter in their lives which could have a massive impact on their Ghosts, as well as them.

Much like the previous series, season five is expected to consist of six episodes in total.

But there is still another adventure from those at Button House to look forward to before the end of 2022.

There is the Ghosts Christmas special which will be broadcast at 7.25pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Christmas Day.

Once again, not everything goes quite according to plan, despite it being the festive period.

Alison and Mike are spending Christmas Day with his family but before they leave, she gives each of their ghostly housemates a gift.

Her present to Pat (Jim Howick) in particular is very poignant and gives him time to think about his past life.

When there is too much traffic, Alison and Mike are forced to return home where they are welcomed by a spectacular gift.

Ghosts is available to watch on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
