Loose Women's Denise Welch teases explosive confrontation coming later this week on show

LOOSE Women's Denise Welch has teased tomorrow's show will feature an explosive confrontation between Nicola Sturgeon and Carol McGiffin.

The Scottish First Minister's appearance on the ITV show comes just days after she was rapped by cops for flouting mask wearing rules – despite being a vociferous enforcer of them.

Writing on Twitter yesterday, Denise posted: "Guess who’s on @loosewomen on Wednesday…..Nicola Sturgeon. Guess who’s on the panel……@McGiff [applause and mind blown emojis]"

Denise has been fiercely critical of the draconian rules enforced by the government throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

She has spoken out about mask mandates and slammed the government for breaking its own rules by hosting a series of parties in Downing Street while constituents around the country were banned from mixing with loved ones.

While Carol has accused the government of overstating the dangers of coronavirus and been a vocal critic of lockdowns and proposed vaccine mandates.

On Saturday First Minister Sturgeon was reported to Police Scotland after she was pictured without a face covering in a barbershop.

Social media footage emerged of the SNP leader in the hairdressers maskless – at a time when the legal virus curb was still in force.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Local officers have spoken to the First Minister to remind her of the importance of wearing a face covering when there is a legal requirement to do so.

"Given the circumstances of this incident, Police Scotland is satisfied that no further action is necessary.

"This is in line with our proportionate approach throughout the pandemic."

In a statement, Ms Sturgeon said: "On Saturday, while campaigning outdoors in East Kilbride I was invited into a local barber shop. After a few seconds of being in the shop, I realised I had forgotten to put my face covering back on. I then immediately put it on.

"However, I accept that not wearing a face covering even for a few seconds was an error on my part and I am sorry for that.

"Having received complaints about the matter, Police Scotland made contact with me.

"This is what they would have done with anyone else in these circumstances, and they were absolutely right to treat me no differently to any other citizen.

"I explained that the error was inadvertent and the police have confirmed that the matter is closed."

The First Minister added: "While the law no longer requires face coverings to be worn, I will continue to do so in circumstances where this can help reduce the risk of infection, and I encourage everyone to do likewise."

The six-second online video from Saturday showed Ms Sturgeon – already inside the shop – lightly ruffling a young man’s hair while he sits in a barber chair, with Ms Sturgeon cheekily mimicking the sound of clippers.

The clip, shared on social media, doesn’t match official images from the event which show Ms Sturgeon covering up with a tartan face mask.
