Melinda Messenger urges Dancing on Ice 2022 stars to be brave during training

Melinda Messenger has told next year's Dancing on Ice stars that they'll need to "be brave" if they want to succeed on the show.

The former DOI star competed on the fourth series of the ITV ice skating series back in 2009, and she was paired up with professional skater Fred Palascak.

The ex-glamour model has now revealed her tips for next year's cast – and what challenges they're likely to come up against in rehearsals.

This year's line-up includes the likes of Love Island babe Liberty Poole, S Club 7 singer Rachel Stevens and Pussycat Dolls star Kimberly Wyatt.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star at the British Curry Awards 2021, Melinda said that the stars will have the "time of their lives" on the show.

However, the former Page 3 girl added that they'll need to make sure they wear "lots of padding" to avoid too many scrapes.

On her advice for next year's stars, Melinda said: "Wear lots of padding when you're rehearsing. Good luck, go for it!

"It feels like it's one of those things that's never going to end. It's quite tough, but it's absolutely brilliant. They'll have the time of their lives."

She went on to say that the stars will have to be "brave", otherwise they'll never do any of the tricky lifts that impress the judges on the show.

Melinda advised: "You've got to be a bit brave as well, otherwise you'll never do any of the lifts."

She then laughed as she quipped: "Don't break anything!"

However, despite the risks involved, Melinda said that stars should "enjoy" their time on the show, which is hosted by This Morning'sPhillip Schofield.

When asked about her biggest challenges on the show, Melinda explained that she had to do Detroiter, and the move was so risky that they could only practice it two times.

The mum-of-three replied: "Oh God, there were loads… I had to the Detroiter, I think it was called.

"Basically, I was spun by one hand over Fred Palascak's head and were were going so fast, that something to do with that equation of motion kept me in the right place but we could only practice it two times because the G-force was so strong."

She admitted it was "nerve-wracking" because if she fell, she'd be falling onto the ice – a rather hard surface by all accounts.

Melinda and Fred were eliminated in the seventh week of the show in 2009, after losing the surprise skate-off against pop singer Jessica Taylor.

The glam blonde had previously survived three other skate-offs on the show, where she appeared alongside Loose Women star Coleen Nolan.
