Strictly Come Dancing: Anton Du Beke speaks out on retiring from BBC series

Anton Du Beke made it to the final of last year’s Strictly Come Dancing with Emma Barton and will be returning to the dance floor once more this year to try and lift the Glitterball Trophy. However, despite the BBC confirming he will return, some fans are certain it could be his last.

To address the speculation, Anton joined Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby on This Morning to talk about his future on the show.

When asked by Phillip if there was any truth to the rumours, Anton exclaimed: “No! No! I’ve got twins, I’m never retiring, absolutely not”

Phillip continued: “You are yet to lift the trophy…”

“This year could be my year,” Anton replied.

“Last year was the vintage year, best of all years, remarkable year. I got a ten. Strength from strength.”

Anton also opened up on how the show keeps him so busy throughout the year.

“One of the hardest things is stopping for any period of time and then getting back into it,” he explained.

“I don’t stop, I do the television show, we start in August until Christmas, I go out on tour with my own show, the guys do the arena show.

“And so you just keep going and when you’re not touring or doing a show, you’re preparing yourself physically.

“In a state of perpetual preparation or you do end up becoming injured.”

Meanwhile, Gorka Marquez, who also appeared on the show noted just because he is part of the professional line-up, it doesn’t mean he will get a celebrity partner.

Gorka didn’t pair up with anyone last year but instead got to spend more time with his baby daughter Mia.

Speaking of fatherhood, he commented: “Best of life, seeing her grow everyday.”

Last week on This Morning, Kevin Clifton revealed why it was time for him to move on from the series.
