The Walking Dead fans left reeling as Alpha finally murdered by Negan – with epic Carol twist – The Sun

THE villainous Alpha was toppled once and for all in the latest episode of The Walking Dead.

After weeks of speculation, it was confirmed that show boss Angela Kang had followed the path of the Robert Kirkman comics, upon which the show is based.

Following The Whisperers’ attack on Hilltop, which saw them lead a zombie horde to the town’s defences before setting them alight, Alpha (Samantha Morton) seemed downcast.

She was disappointed to see that her daughter Lydia (Cassady McClincy) wasn’t among the horde’s casualties.

However, Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) had good news, telling the dastardly leader that he had captured Lydia and had her tied up in a nearby cabin.

However, as the pair arrived at the site it became clear something was wrong, with Lydia nowhere to be seen.

Alpha’s realisation that she’d been deceived came too late, with Negan slitting her throat as she turned around to confront him.

However, in a departure from the comics, we later saw Negan presenting the decapitated head to none other than Carol (Melissa McBride).

"Took you long enough," she quipped, confirming that she had tasked him with the double cross.

This means that it was indeed Carol that set Negan free from his jail cell in Alexandria way back in episode 4 of season 19.

Carol had vowed to avenge her adopted son Henry, who was murdered by The Whisperers, and clearly she has done just that.

Fans took to social media reeling at the revelation, lauding the episode as the best of the season.

“Carol is easily the most dangerous member of The Walking Dead crew this solidified it,” one fan tweeted.

A second added: “Carol is the most badass person. I love her so much and like Negan…this has to be one of the best episodes in Walking Dead history.”

A third exclaimed: “AHHHHHH I AM SCREAMING! NEGAN KILLED ALPHA FINALLY AND THEN THE REVEAL THAT HE WAS WORKING WITH CAROL?! YAAAAS I AM SHOOK IN THE BEST WAY.”

While a fourth gushed: “The Walking Dead!!! Fricking amazing episode! Carol and Negan are a kick ass team!”

A fifth was more conflicted, writing: “Man this season of The Walking Dead is taking some RISKS! I don’t know how I feel about Negan becoming a hero and the fact that Carol is working with him!”

The furore comes after Daryl actor Norman Reedus claimed he would “burn the show down” if bosses killed him off.

Meanwhile fans accused last week’s episode of ripping off Game of Thrones’ Battle of Winterfell.

The Walking Dead continues on Mondays at 9pm on FOX in the UK.
