The One Show cancelled: BBC show won’t air tonight in schedule shake-up

The One Show airs every weeknight on BBC One but this evening the magazine show has been cancelled in a huge schedule shake-up. The Big Night In is taking over the channel for one night only as Comic Relief and BBC Children In Need combine forces for the first time to encourage viewers to donate to help frontline staff fighting coronavirus and all essential works who are helping to keep the country running during the crisis.

The One Show has been booted from its usual slot of 7pm as The Big Night In kicks off at this time.

But fans of the BBC Magazine will be able to catch Alex Jones when the show returns tomorrow evening.

Alex and co-host Patrick Kielty will be joined by singer Josh Groban who’s been posting songs from his shower during lockdown. 

Earlier this month, Alex said an emotional goodbye to her The One Show co-host Matt Baker.

But viewers will see the Countryfile presenter return to his tea time presenting slot tonight. 

Matt joins Lenny Henry, Zoe Ball, Davina McCall and Paddy McGuinness as hosts for the evening of entertainment. 

TV presenter Ade Adepitan and BBC Radio 1 host Greg James will also be helping out. 

The Big Night In will see Comic Relief and Children In Need come together for three hours of comedy, music and a few surprises. 

Dawn French will be reprising her role of Geraldine Granger in The Vicar of Dibley’s Lockdown Sermon. 

Catherine Tate revisits one of her most famous characters as Lauren the teenager gets home-schooled with David Tennant.

Jack Whitehall and Matthew Horne reunite for a dose of Bad Education with special guest heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. 

While Peter Kay enlists the British public’s help to remake the classic Amarillo music video.

EastEnders’ Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) will be hosting a virtual pub quiz for viewers at home and PE teacher to the nation, Joe Wicks, will be sharing some exercise secrets. 

Elsewhere, David Walliams and Matt Lucas will come together for the first time in over 10 years for a Little Britain sketch.

They’ll be music from Gary Barlow and the Strictly Come Dancing professionals will make a special appearance. 

Each dancer has choreographed ten seconds to the routine and viewers can submit videos of themselves joining in with the best clips getting shown on the night.

BBC viewers will have the opportunity to donate and funds raised on the night will be split equally between BBC Children In Need and Comic Relief. 

During one of the government’s daily press briefings, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak announced the Treasury would match any contributions the public made. 

The funding will provide emergency support for vulnerable people affected by the coronavirus pandemic and lockdown measures. 

The Big Night In airs on BBC One tonight at 7pm.
