This Mornings Vernon Kay shares sad news after enduring DIY problem at home

This Morning's Vernon Kay has shared some "sad news" live on TV after enduring a problem at home during the week.

After welcoming viewers to Wednesday's edition of the popular ITV daytime programme, Vernon said that he had some "sad news".

He said: "I've got some sad news," before Rochelle interjected with "what?" and Vernon revealed that it was "terrible".

"My hand held portable drill broke yesterday," he said in a melancholic voice, revealing that the "sad news" he had wasn't sad at all.

"Oh, darling," Rochelle said sympathetically.

"Not just a drill, it's a screw driver. It's a sander. It was my best friend apart from the children and my wife.

"We were never apart, me and that drill were like chalk and cheese," he said before asking: "Is that right?" and then added: "Peas and carrots."

Rochelle then referred to Meghan Markle's new interview with The Cut when she said: "If you ask Meghan and Harry they say salt and pepper pots."

Vernon then added that he "doesn't know what to do" before Rochelle asked him if she needed to "help him out" before stating that it was "quite traumatic".

"Because of the cost of living crisis, is there any chance you and Marvin could get me a new one please?" Vernon asked.

"I don't actually think Marv has a drill," Rochelle then revealed.

Viewers at home weren't impressed by Vernon's joke though – and even less so after he mentioned the cost of living crisis.

"We love it when celebrities make jokes about the cost of living crisis on national TV," fumed one viewer on Twitter.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV and ITVHub.
