Where is P-Valley filmed and what is the show about?

P-VALLEY is a gritty new drama that tells the story of erotic dancers working in a Mississippi strip club.

It is the product of an all-female directing team and skillfully navigates issues of race, sexuality and gender.

What is P Valley?

The storyline centres around Mississippi strip club The Pynk, and the lives and struggles of the women who dance there.

The Guardian has said: “As told almost entirely by black female and queer characters, it’s one of the year’s best new television series.”

The New York Times has said: “The cast is uniformly outstanding.”

The series was written by the playwright Katori Hall and based on her stage play of a very similar plot.

Before writing the play, Hall was speaking to strippers for over a decade about their experiences to get the most authentic representation

She said: “They are choosing if it’s going to be exploitative, or if it’s going to be liberating — and these women are choosing liberation.”

P-Valley shines a light on the experiences of Black women's experiences anddeftly presents the struggles of identity and gender within the setting of America's Deep South. The Pynk's owner Uncle Clifford is a Black gender-fluid hustler played by Nico Annan.

The series is directed by masterful Karena Evans, who directing the Drake's music videos for "God's Plan", "Nice for What", and "In My Feelings". 

 The series premiered on US TV network Starz on July 12.

It can be watched on their on-demand service Starzplay in the UK and on Amazon Prime.

Where is the show filmed?

‘P-Valley’ is set in a small town in the Mississippi Delta, also known as alternately known as “The Dirty Delta”.

Although its Mississippi setting is important to the plot, P-Valley was actually filmed in Atlanta, Georgia.

Local sources have said that filming signs were spotted near the city of East Point, but filming locations have not been confirmed.

How many seasons are there?

The first series is comprised of eight episodes.

Each episode is an hour long.

Only one season of P-Valley is out currently, but its impressive critical reception may result in plans for a second series.
