Yellowstone fans have been left desperately waiting for new episodes following the dramatic season three finale which left a number of characters’ fates up in the air. Season four has been greenlit but viewers might have been left worried about Paramount’s plans to move away from television series – here’s what you need to know about this.

Is Yellowstone in danger amid Paramount shake-up?

As one of the most popular shows on television at the moment, Yellowstone fans have not been worried about the show’s future.

However, a new update from the Paramount Network has left some wondering if this might no longer be the case.

According to Variety, Paramount has decided to rebrand and reorganise its network.

The new focus will now be on made-for-television films, resulting in a name change to the Paramount Movie Network.

The company is also thought to be focusing on landing big names for these films.

The publication has reported how they will be releasing 52 original films per year with one airing each week.

As Yellowstone is a series, some viewers will therefore be wondering if this will impact the show’s future.

Thankfully, it seems like Yellowstone has been factored into the new plans.

This is because Paramount will be releasing a mini-series or hit drama each quarter.

These are all expected to be of the same scale of the hit series Yellowstone.

As well as this, Variety has suggested some of the characters in Yellowstone may therefore land their own film spin-offs in this new structure.

However, the changes might mean a format shake-up for the show as well.

The publication has revealed it will now be billed as a cinematic event, which will mean it might air two episodes every week.

Explaining the news, president of entertainment Chris McCarthy told Variety: “We’re doubling down on scripted but diversifying with made for TV movies, mini-series and blockbuster series with movie stars like Yellowstone.

“Made-for-TV movies provide all the creative upside and ability to work with great talent, without the full time commitment of a series or feature.

“Plus, we’re maximising our investment because we can build a valuable library to use across our streaming, cable and global footprints.”

However, the changes are not all good news for other series as it has resulted in a number of cancellations.

Among those cancelled include unscripted shows like Ink Master, Wife Swap and Battle of the Fittest Couples.

Yellowstone season four has already begun filming with the cast and crew on location in Montana currently.

The show is filming under tight coronavirus COVID-19 restrictions but is expected to air as planned.

This means viewers will hopefully see it released in June 2021, as all of the series so far have been released around this time yearly.

Yellowstone season 4 will return to Paramount in 2021.
