Dan Petrescu death crash – Baby boy killed with his parents hours after his own baptism in horror plane smash
A BABY boy who died with his parents in a plane flown by billionaire Dan Petrescu had his baptism just hours before, it was reported.
Raphael, aged 18 months, was on the doomed plane with dad Filippo Nascimbene and mum Claire Alexandrescou, along with her mum Miruna Anca Wanda Lozinschi.
Petrescu his wife and son died when the single engine plane plummeted into a subway station in San Donato Milanese.
The 68-year-old was one of Romania's richest men and had been travelling with his son Dan Stefan Petrescu, 30, his wife 65-year-old wife Regina Petrescu.
Italian-born Nascimbene, 33, and his 34-year-old wife, a Romanian-born French passport holder, were both business executives and friends with the Petrescu family.
Raphael was born in January 2020 and has his baptism on Sunday morning, Corriere della Serra reports.
The family then went to the airport to head to Sardinia to see Petrescu's 98-year-old mother at the family villa.
But shortly after taking off from Milan's Linate airport, the plane's engine caught fire and it plummeted to the ground.
Also on the plane was his son's Canadian friend 36-year-old Julien Brossard.
Mrs Petrescu was also a dual-national and held a French passport, while her son had been working in Canada.
Petrescu, who also held Germany nationality, headed a major construction firm and owned a string of hypermarkets and mall, Italian media have reported.
According to the Romanian newspaper Adevarul, Petrescu was worth 3 billion euros.
The Pilatus PC-12 single engine plane took off from the main runway at Linate airport at 1.04pm local time but crashed 11 minutes later.
It performed a right hand turn that would have taken it on its route toOlbia in Sardinia but instead of heading south it went towards San Donato.
As the aircraft veered off course, frantic radio operators of the Linate area control centre, which manages traffic in the skies of North-West Italy, asked: "Why did you deviate? To avoid turbulence?"
"No" is the only word that reportedly came in response from Petrescu.
Within a minute, the plane disappeared from the monitors without any mayday signal.
Witnesses said the plane burst into flames and made what investigators call a "vertical fall" 16 seconds before it hit the ground.
Firefighters rushed to the scene but the pilot and passengers died at the scene.
Those who saw the crash recalled the moment the plane plummeted out of the sky and smashed into the building, which was thankfully empty .
One named as Andrea, 19, told tgcom.24.: "I saw the plane lose control. I saw it just as it crashed. I saw it dive.
"The plane was low. And then there was a lot of smoke, flames in the sky. Pieces were flying. I was very scared."
