North Carolina town wrecked by Hurricane Dorian waterspout
A North Carolina town was ravaged as a waterspout sparked by Hurricane Dorian spun through the area — leaving an RV park in shambles, new video shows.
The town of Emerald Isle confirmed on its website that a water spout, or a tornado that forms on water, touched down in the area shortly after 9 a.m. Thursday. Boardwalk RV park suffered the most severe damage.
New video shows multiple campers nearly toppled over and torn apart, with debris strewn everywhere.
Town manager Matt Zapp told The News & Observer that there were people inside at least one of the campers when the waterspout struck.
“They were packing up, they were trying to get out,” Zapp said.
But luckily there were no injuries reported, the town confirmed.
