Scotland Yard golden girl charged in connection with an indecent image of a child sent to her by her sister

SCOTLAND Yard golden girl has been charged in connection with an indecent image sent to her by her own sister.

Superintendent Robyn Williams – who was the Met Police public face for the Notting Hill Carnival and New year's Eve celebrations – is accused of corruptly failing to report her sister Jennifer Hodge over the sexual image featuring a child.

The senior officer, who was given a commendation for her work helping Grenfell Tower families, is also accused of a single count of possession of an indecent image.

Supt Williams vehemently denies the allegations and claims she never saw the picture sent via social media in February last year.

She is due to appear at Willesden Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, 12 March with her sister Ms Hodge, 55, and the latter’s partner Dido Massivi, 61.

It is understood that the video clip containing the image had been circulated by vigilantes trying to expose a paedophile.

Ms Hodge is said to have been trying to raise awareness of the issue and innocently forwarded the message on through social media, not realising it could have been illegal to do so.

However, a teacher who received the message reported it to police on 4 February last year.

When Ms Hodge and her partner were quizzed by cops, she told them she had no idea what she had done was illegal and said she had also shown it to her sister, who was a senior Met officer.

Supt Williams was then interviewed under caution by the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards last March.

INTERVIEWED UNDER CAUTION

She was placed on restricted duties and moved from her post as borough commander of Sutton to an office-based role in West London.

Supt Williams is said to be “distraught” after being issued with a summons through postal requisition last Friday.

Victor Marshall, Professional Standards Co-ordinator for the Police Superintendents’ Association, said: “Supt Williams emphatically denies the allegations and will strenuously defend herself against the charges.
"We are supporting her, and she has voluntarily co-operated fully with the investigation."

As well as fronting for the Met at Carnival, she was their official spokesperson at London’s New Year's Eve celebrations.

The daughter of Jamaican immigrants, her easy style, race and gender endeared her to successive commissioners and London Mayor Sadiq Khan.

Supt Wiliams has also been lauded for her work as the main liaison officer dealing with victims’ families and survivors of Grenfell Tower, who recently gave her at standing ovation at a ceremony where she received a commissioner’s commendation.

This is a tragedy for Robyn. She did not expect to be charged and never even saw the image concerned

One source said: “This is a tragedy for Robyn. She did not expect to be charged and never even saw the image concerned.

“She is distraught at being charged.”

Supt Willaims joined the Met in 2004 after previously serving in Nottinghamshire Police and with Her Majesty’s Chief Inspectorate of the Constabulary.

The Met said in a statement: “Three people, including a serving Metropolitan Police officer, have been charged in connection with an investigation into indecent images of a child.

“Jennifer Hodge, 55, and Dido Massivi, 61, both of Deacon Road NW2, were charged on Tuesday, 12 February.

“Hodge was charged with distributing an indecent image of a child, namely a moving image file of Category A severity.

“Massivi was charged with two counts of distributing an indecent image of a child, namely a moving image file of Category A severity, and one count of possession of extreme pornography.

“Novlett Robyn Williams, aged 54, a superintendent based within Frontline Policing, was charged on Friday, 15 February with one count of possession of an indecent image of a child, namely a moving image file of Category A severity, and one count of corrupt/improper exercise of police powers and privileges by a constable in failing to report the distribution of that image.
