What a plank! Whole load of trouble for motorist who had long lengths of timber hanging from his vehicle… meaning he could not turn corners

  • A driver was pictured with dangerously long planks hanging out his car in Leeds
  • They were overhanging into a trailer meaning he was unable to turn corners
  • Leeds Police said the owner received a traffic offence report for ‘unsuitable use’

He could hardly have complained if he’d been put through the mill by special branch.

As it was, officers were forced to log this driver’s details when they spotted the dangerous load he had left to stick out of his car boot.

The man was recently caught with these long planks protruding out of the back of his vehicle in Leeds.

The driver’s Subaru Legacy was stopped by Leeds police who tweeted that they had spotted the ‘precarious looking vehicle’.

The owner had received a traffic offence report for ‘unsuitable use’, they said. The force added: ‘This certainly isn’t an appropriate means of transporting goods!’

Locals poked fun at the incident.

William Sloan said: ‘What’s the problem as long as he went ‘straight’ home.’

James Holden added: ‘What on earth were they thinking would happen when they turn a corner?’

Another said: ‘Only an issue around a bend.’

Local gritting firm Yorkshire Gritters added: ‘Basic physics.’

Another resident said: ‘Planks in the trailer, and a plank in the driver’s seat too.

‘I can’t help feeling that you chaps have forced him to avoid a totally unanticipated accident – and a potentially serious one too.’
