5.30pm Chelsea transfer news LIVE: Man Utd Dembele battle, £50m Dunk price tag, Soumare and Lemar blow – The Sun

CHELSEA have yet to splash their cash in the transfer window, despite no longer being banned.

But Frank Lampard and co are busy scouting far and wide as he looks to strengthen ahead of a top four push this season.

A defender looks like a certain for Lamps, with injuries and lack of fitness to a number of his centre-backs leaving the Blues struggling to keep goals out – with Brighton's Lewis Dunk among the targets.

Yet, they face a fight to sign the likes of Boubakary Soumare and Moussa Dembele, with Manchester United also keen on the pair.

  • DRIES MERTENS – 32 – NAPOLI

BELGIAN is also set to become a free agent at the end of the season after seven years in Naples and he’s already said to be in talks with the Blues.

Maurizio Sarri, who led Chelsea to Europa League glory last year, converted former winger Mertens into a False Nine in the 16/17 campaign.

He has netted 84 times since then but may lack the physicality to cut it in the English game.

  • CHELSEA have yet to really splash the cash this month, despite not being able to in the summer.

They continue to target a defender but have been hit by either a high price tag or unable to move on fringe stars.

SunSport takes a look at five strikers who Chelsea could sign this month:

    EDINSON CAVANI – 32 – PSG

URUGUAYAN is out of contract this summer and looks certain to leave Paris after being ousted from the starting XI by Mauro Icardi.

Cavani has featured just eight times in Ligue 1 this season and already has offers from numerous sides including Man Utd and Arsenal.

The poacher has scored 198 goals in 291 games for PSG and would provide Chelsea with the X-Factor currently lacking up top.

Swansea City and Hull City are reportedly monitoring Chelsea youngster Tariq Uwakwe.

The Mirror claim the two clubs will battle it out to sign the 20-year-old on loan this month.

It is reported that the Blues are willing to let him leave on an 18-month temporary deal.

But they will have to act fast as Derby are also interested in the midfielder.
